Carla Gugino to Rep the Mature Hotties in Snyder’s Sucker Punch

Sucker Punch (2011) Movie — By Nix on August 3, 2009 |
You know, I’m constantly amazed that Carla Gugino isn’t more famous than she currently is in the American mainstream. Then again, maybe it’s my mad crush on the former Karen Sisco and Threshold star that’s doing the talking. In any case, Zack Snyder apparently has no problems recognizing the uber talents of Ms. Gugino, because after casting her as Silk Spectre I in “Watchmen”, Snyder has now cast Gugino in his upcoming “Sucker Punch”, his all-girl action/fantasy movie set in a mental institution.
Gugino joins a cast that already includes Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, and Abbie Cornish. The film will be set in the 1950s, and will star Browning as a young girl confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. In order to fight back, the girl and her inmate friends fantasize an alternate reality where they begin planning their great escape. Girl showers and late-night pillow fights ensue. One can only hope.
THR says Gugino will play Mrs. Schultz, described as an adult figure at the institution, although Variety calls her character a nurse who becomes a madam at a brothel in the film’s alternate reality. Either way, she’ll end up working at the insane asylum where the film’s bevy of young hot cast are being housed because, you know, they’re kinda nuts and all. Or maybe they’re perfectly sane and it’s everyone else that are nuts, you ever think of that? These questions, and more, when “Sucker Punch” hits theaters in 2010.
Snyder and company kick off production in the fall up north in Vancouver land. Word is, the girls are currently in heavy fight training for the movie. Must be big male orderlies in need of kicking in the nads…
